Is a 5g phone more likely to default to band 71?

Even though band 71 has been available in my area here for over a year, I can honestly say the phones that I have had in that time have never used it. It just does not seem like much of a priority and the phones would rather try to retain a marginal signal on band 66 or 2 rather than go to band 71 which just might get me greater coverage distance.

So my question is, since 5g is used on band 71, if I were to purchase a 5g phone, would it be any more likely to use that band than a 4g LTE phone does? Do 5g phones tend to default to the 5g bands, or are they not a priority even then?
